Time for my CraftsGood Morning dear friends.. I can't believe how long it has been since I posted on this blog. Since 2011 many things have happened in my life. Due to arthritis in my back and hips I had to stop work in 2012. Being labeled "disabled" is not what I ever thought would happen to me. I was working from home doing medical transcription for a local doctor who understood my fibromyalgia disease and it's intermittent need for shorter days if needed. On January 31, 2013 I had my right hip replaced and on June 2, 2014 the left hip was replaced. My doctor was wonderful. I walked out of the hospital the day after surgery with a new outlook on life. Somehow I would take back my life. My "take back" has been slow due to severe osteoarthritis in my lower back, but I am still moving forward.

Along the way I found I needed to lighten the load a bit so ended up selling my treadle machine. I also started doing more crocheting. I am now making lap size and toddler size afghans. I have donated many for fund raisers and then seem to go over well. I tried my hand at selling on Etsy, but people just will not buy them, although I did get special orders for a few, which was nice. I also made and sold soy candles for about a year, which I loved doing and they sold great on Etsy and from my home. Due to the back problems I had to stop doing that. My husband and I still make them for Christmas presents each year, but that is all I can do for now.

My wonderful husband bought me a nice new Brother Project Runway PC420PRW 294-Stitch Professional Grade Computerized Sewing Machine with 3 Built-In Lettering Styles, and Carrying Case. I have looked it over and stepped away a few times as it looks to be more than I want to deal with right now.

Right now I am trying to rearrange my craft area. I have made a couple of very good deals with local ladies that had decided to stop crocheting and I bought there yarn supply. All I can say is wow! I then won an essay contest online. The agreement to enter was to send part of your stash to the winner. Another Wow! I have received many beautiful yarns that I never would have ordered otherwise!

I guess that is about it for now. I will try to take pics of my craft room when everything is sorted through. I will also try and update my profile info as our granddaughter Raegan is now 10 and was 4 the last time I updated. Where does the time go?

Take care my friends.Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15399656333025771710noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7462424120450337012.post-89060083268872247662011-07-09T07:43:00.000-07:002011-07-09T07:48:44.598-07:00Where has the time gone??? December 2010 was my last entry! I hope you all have had a good year so far. I am trying to get used to 2 new doctor's offices that I do transcription for since February. After having a wonderful doctor for the past 7 years he had to make the decision to close his practice due to the single payer plan that seems to be happening here in VT. Hopefully once I start making more money and get these accounts where I am feeling more "at home" I will be on here a bit more.

I have started a huge stash of old jewelry and beads for repurposing and hopefully one day will add pics of something that these 2 hands actual made.

For now it is back to work.. take care my friends!Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15399656333025771710noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7462424120450337012.post-1330480486116406792010-12-29T09:07:00.000-08:002010-12-29T09:10:52.706-08:00Cleaning out my stash!Hi All,

It is time to clear out some of my stash and make a bit of very much needed money. I am only working part time at this point and feel I need to contribute a bit more than I am. I am in the process of putting together fabric and embellishments for sale on my etsy store. I hope you will all take a look when they are ready. I have so much stash that I will never use it all.

I will update when everything is in place to sell.

Thanks,
NancyNancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15399656333025771710noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7462424120450337012.post-33114144772761462922009-10-04T08:37:00.001-07:002009-10-04T08:43:43.988-07:001913 Singer 128K crank sewing machine

I have always wanted a nice little hand crank machine. I was lucky enough to find this on ebay a few months ago. It is a 1913 Singer 128 with La Vincendora decals. It was made between July and December 1913 at the Kilbowie Singer factory in Clydebank, Scotland. When it was delivered I had to clean up the shuttle bobbin as it looked like a rat nest.. but after I rewound the bobbin correctly I tried it out and just like the old Singer machines are known for, she sewed just perfect!

Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15399656333025771710noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7462424120450337012.post-38673713047523212152009-09-29T09:04:00.001-07:002009-10-22T08:15:19.050-07:001956 Singer Featherweight

I purchased my "birthday" 1956 Singer Featherweight recently. Here are her pictures along with all her great attachments that include a automatic zigzagger, buttonholer, and a complete box of attachments. She works like a dream. I can fondly remember my grandmother, Anna Josephine Pfenning using her little featherweight. They lived in Vermont, but were known to "winter" in Florida so it was the perfect size to stow in their car on their trips south.

Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15399656333025771710noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7462424120450337012.post-62198681171513052682009-03-17T12:42:00.000-07:002009-03-17T13:33:39.852-07:00Silkies/ciggies at my etsy storeAfter searching for silkies/ciggies for my CQ stash I decided to make an investment buying clipart and supplies to make my own silkies.

I had seen some out there, but like what I wanted to use. I think the next step will be sorting by color to break it down a bit more in hopes of using Zip-Loc bags to store them in so I can see in and the dander from my parrot stays out!

The snow is falling so it is a good day to stay warm inside and get a bit of these projects started.

Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15399656333025771710noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7462424120450337012.post-44412622708304211672009-02-21T09:47:00.000-08:002009-03-03T08:01:05.427-08:00In the beginning there was Rosie...I started sewing at home with my mom's Singer treadle when I was about 5 or 6. After she upgraded to electric I used my great grandmother's New Home treadle. Now that was an experience with the long bobbins. I have had Singer electrics over the years, but just did not feel right to me. Too many bells and whistles.

When I started looking for a treadle about 2 years ago I knew that I wanted a round bobbin machine. My search took me to Massachusetts where I found Rosie my Singer treadle red eye, which dates to 1915. I need to clean her up, replace a bobbin wheel, and tighten the belt as it has stretched over the years. I will then test her out. Fingers crossed!

My stash has been out of control since starting 2 years ago. Yes, 2 years and not a block to my name yet. I became too overwhelmed by all I had and with only a small closet in my office to store things I gave up and just packed everything away in the shed.

Usually New Year's resolutions consist of dieting, stop smoking, or something along those lines. I had to be different. I made the resolution to get my stash under control and figure out a "system" that would work for me. I now think I am ready.

To get things in some kind of order I used Zip-Loc bags for the material and sorted by color and type. I then purchased Lock & Lock rectangular containers that are see through for my lace, braids, embellishing threads, appliques, buttons, sequins, and ribbon. I have 2 Dot Boxes for my sead beads and larger beads are in 2 Darice bead boxes.

I purchased what is called a Mega Tote II. It has pockets on the outside in numerous shapes and sizes and the inside holds 6 11x7 inch plastic containers. I will use one for my "tools" scissors, Olfa cutters, pens, pencils, ruler, and so on, the next I used for threads and embellishments, a variety of fabric in the next, and so on. Now if all works as I hope it does I should be able pick out the fabric, ribbon, buttons, and embellishments I want and keep them in some kind of order in the tote during the time I am putting them together. Fingers crossed!

I decided to do my first couple of blocks in only solid cotton fabric. I am taking baby steps here.. I don't want to mess up with "special" fabrics so will do it with only cottons until I know I am doing it correctly. I guess thats all for now.Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15399656333025771710noreply@blogger.com1
